Isolation Transformers are used to transfer electrical power from Mains to sensitive Electronic Equipment, CNC Machines or any Device isolating the powered device from the power source. It saves the Device from spikes, transients & surges on Mains lines which can cripple the Equipment. Sometimes, common Ground termination can damage the measuring equipment such as Oscilloscolpes and Spectrum Analysers where measurement probes have connection to signal ground. Therefore. In such applications, use of an Isolation Transformer is a must.
Isolation is often built with special insulation between primary and secondary, and is specified to withstand a high voltage between windings. Common Ground connection is obviated and blocks transmission of the DC component in signals from one circuit to the other, but allows AC components in signals to pass, thus providing high common mode rejection.
Electro-Medical equipment requires ULTRA ISOLATION. Ultra Isolation transformers use special measures to physically separate Primary and Secondary windings with multiple layered Electromagnetic Shields to reduce leakage current transmittance through capacitive coupling. Electrostatic Shields provide grounding of leakge currents while Insulation levels of upto 1000 Meg Ohms provide Galvanic Isolation of Primary and Secondary.
